Jazz, French Chanson & Tap Dance
The project My French Songbook is a celebration of beautiful melodies, irresistible swing, and exhilarating improvisation.
Jazz and French Chanson have long been close companions, and some French songs—such as “Les Feuilles Mortes” and “C’est Si Bon”—have become beloved jazz standards.
Australian singer and tap dancer Wendy Lee Taylor offers a fresh perspective on the French repertoire, exploring it through the lens of jazz and bringing new life to songs not usually associated with the genre.
The poetry, wit, and emotion at the heart of the chanson tradition—found in songs by Trenet, Aznavour, Piaf, and Brel, among others—are revisited with elegant jazz arrangements, creating a lively dialogue between voice, tap dance, and a band of outstanding jazz musicians.
